Les artistes de drag se sont réunis samedi au Washington Circle et se sont rendus au centre de Kennedy pour protester contre la récente prise de contrôle par le président de l'institution des arts par le président Trump ainsi que les ordres exécutifs de Trump attaquant les droits des personnes transgenres.

La marche pour le drag a commencé avec un rassemblement près de l'Université de George Washington, où l'interprète et co-organisateur local Lord Henry, un roi de drag, a appelé les attaques contre les artistes et les gens queer.

« Nous exigeons que le Kennedy Center Board réintégre la programmation queer, y compris, mais sans s'y limiter, des ateliers et des spectacles axés sur les galiers et toute autre initiative des actions et de la Dei au Kennedy Center », a déclaré Lord Henry à la foule, selon la foule, selon à La lame de Washington. «Nous voulons forcer le Congrès à abandonner les multiples tentatives de criminalisation de la non-conformité de genre, notamment le décret exécutif de Trump confondant le sexe et le sexe et l'attaque contre les artistes de dragage à travers des amendements budgétaires, refusant des fonds aux organisations soutenant et protégeant cette forme d'art queer.»

Le Kennedy Center organise plus de 2 000 événements chaque année, ce qui en fait le centre d'arts le plus fréquenté du pays. C'est le domicile officiel du National Symphony Orchestra et du Washington National Opera. Au-delà de la fin des drags familiaux, le Centre a annulé les performances d'autres artistes LGBTQ +, y compris un spectacle du Gay Men's Chorus of DC et un concert du mois de la fierté, depuis la prise de contrôle de Trump.

« Ce président diabolise une communauté marginalisée afin de contrôler les arts en Amérique. C'est honteux, immoral et faible », a déclaré l'artiste drag Tara Hoot L'avocat avant l'événement. « À un moment où nos artistes et nos communautés LGBTQ + sont plus que jamais attaqués, nous devons nous présenter et s'exprimer contre cette prise de contrôle fasciste des arts. »
